Ideas for Scouters
As part of the Camporee, each attending section is required to bring an activity to share with other Sections of the specific age groups (If you are bringing a Cub Pack, we ask that you host a Cub activity). Beaver & Cub Activities are 20 mins in length, and participants will be rotated through the activities during the activity time period. Troop activities are open-ended, but should aim for 30 minutes. Below are some ideas. More ideas are being identified by the Activity Coordinators, and will be added below.
Activity & Campfire (Songs/Skits/Cheer) Ideas
Activity Ideas
The activities are hosted by the attending Section leaders. Sections are requested to pick an activity ahead of time and submit it to the camp organizers. All Sections are encouraged to decorate their campsite, provide interesting activities and dress in attire that represents the Theme. (TBD)
Beavers/Cubs
Fishing off the Beach - Participants construct fishing pole out of poles or bamboo sticks and rope, and must "catch" the snapper (mouse trap). (Can also be built using magnets and cardboard fish cutouts with paper clips.
Puzzles: Have large plywood pieces of wood painted or wallpapered that fit together into a puzzle
Hike: A map and Trail guide/possible compass activity
Cubs
Beach Volley Ball - Volleyball net with participants divided in two teams
Signals - participants Patrols have five minutes to decide on a method of signaling a silent message to a line-of-sight outpost. Scorers give two Scouts a short message and send them to a visible point—for example, a point 75 yards down the trail— and instruct the Youth to signal the message back. For the transmitted messages , pick messages that the receiver cannot guess the complete message based on only a few words.
Cubs/Scouts
Campfire on the Beach: Team demonstrates starting a fire.
Exploring the campground - Using a compass, troops will forge a path that leads them back to the beginning
Portage - Each team will need to "portage" a canoe (Dry Land over distance) and then use it to make a temporary shelter
Trebuchet challenge/ Catapult Building: Participants demonstrates lashings in the construction of a catapult. Hosting group will need Wood and rope and have the participants use Tennis balls to be launched when built. Materials/Equipment Required: Spars, rope, tennis balls
Lifting Crane (Scouts)- Using 4 spars & rope, each team builds a tripod crane to lift a can of water.
Obstacle Course
Saw & Axe Challenge - Saw and cut wood for a beach campfire
Height and Distance Estimation - estimate the height of a tree or rock face, and a horizontal distance.
Knots: Create a scenario where the Scouts will need to utilize their knot skills. The Bear Line activity is one scenario for them to utilize a few knot skills. The activity here is to utilize other knot skills. One idea along these lines is “Toxic Flood”: A chemical plant above the dam has blown up. Patrols have seven minutes to secure their sleds at least as high as their shortest Scout.
