FAQs for Participants

What is a Camporee?

A Camporee is a gathering of multiple local or regional Scouting groups for a camping event, sometimes called a mini-Jamboree.  Jamborees are usually a week-long regional, national or international camp.

The Carleton Camporee invites participation from Groups across Voyageur Council to experience a traditional Scout Camp.  It is organized by an Event Team, with representatives from each attending section. Much like a Potluck dinner, each of the attending Sections contributes a game or activity developed and tested with their youth. This provides many activities for the youth participants.

The Event Team and attending sections determine a theme and camp crest, which is incorporated into the activities and costumes.

Do I need to stop at the Park Registration Building? No, you don't need to stop at the Park registration building, continue through to the Group Camping Area.  See Map.

Where do I park with my Car? Each section has 1 onsite parking pass, for the car to be located at your campsite.  Otherwise, once you have unpacked your gear and youth, drive your car down the hill to the Public Parking lot. See  Map

Where are the Cub and Beaver Campsites? Around the horseshoe. See Camporee maps.

Where do the Scouts and Venturers Camp? When entering the Group Camping Area, Scout Troops are located immediately on the left.  Venturer Companies are camping 300m further in, also on the left.  However, using the one-way roads, the Venturer camping area is available on the return leg. See Map

How do I find my Group or section? Check with your Contact Scouter, so you know what Group and section your child is a member of.  Scouters:  Remind parents what Group and section their children are part of so that they can find you.

What should my child pack? Guidance at What to Pack.

FAQs for Scouters / Sections

Does our site have picnic tables? Yes. All Beaver & Cub sites should have at least 2 tables at their site. The Camporee maps produced after registration closes will indicate how many picnic tables your section has been allocated.  Troop and Company sites do not come with picnic tables.

Can we bring Portable (wood) Fire Pits? No.

Can we bring Propane Fire Bowls? Propane appliances that are used at Camporee for cooking are permitted by the Park.  Propane appliances not used at Camporee for cooking (e.g. used at Camporee only for warmth), are not permitted.

Can we bring Camping Trailers (Winnebago, etc...)? Tent trailers are discouraged, and only allowed with the permission of the Camp Committee.  To obtain permission, contact the camp chief at ScouterDave1stGC@gmail.com

Is there a First Aid site? : TBD

Can Non-Members attend? Yes they can! See Non-Members

Can our section attend just for the daytime?  Our focus at Camporee is a 2-night weekend event.  The Event Team has previously considered sections attending without camping, but have decided against. It presents difficulties with respect to integration within the Camporee schedule, the remote parking at Fitzroy Park is not conducive for sections to arrivals on the Saturday and our orientation activities and safety briefing occur Friday night.

My Group is not located in Carleton Area, can we register? Yes, Groups outside of former Carleton Area are welcome to attend.

What is the overall cost of attending camp? Overall cost varies depending upon expenses that are not part of the Camporee fee.  Each section creates a budget for the event, which allows it to determine a fee for its members, by including the registration fee (including for volunteers), food, fuel and consumables, travel expenses (e.g. if travelling by bus), and other sundries.

Can a Beaver sleep in a tent with (only) their parent? Maybe. See Camp Rules - Section Campsite Facilities.

Can we have a member arrive or depart during the event? Yes.

Note: Parents dropping off or picking up youth are not permitted to enter the Group Camping Area, by car or on foot.  They must be met by their section (or an escort of at least 2 section Scouters) at the entrance to the Group Camping Area.

Adult members arriving or departing during the event must use the lower parking lot. They may not leave using a vehicle with an on-site parking pass.

Are there any food restrictions:  Carleton Camporee is a nut-free event.

Where can I find a list of what's on this site? See the Site Index.
