2023 Activities - Colony

Survival Reflector - 137th Ottawa Colony -Using a CD, Beavers will glue/attach instructions, create a beaded line holder
Pool Noodle Race Course -1st Carp Oak Colony -As a team, each lodge plans, then constructs a (slalom?) race course with pylons. Then the Beavers, all at the same time, get to run their race course, by hitting a ball along the course with a pool noodle. Once done, the lodges rotate to try each others' race courses. Variation: design a subsequent course.
Villagers vs. Old Dragons - 7th Kanata Colony - Sponge toss against Scouters looking through the board cutout
Scavenger hunt -25th Nepean Beavers Our beavers want to set up a map with images and directions to get through a scavenger hunt
Jesters of Fitzroy -1st West Carleton Colony -While using a parachute, the Jesters (AKA the Beavers) will entertain the guests of medieval times by bouncing plastic balls on the parachute, one half of the Jesters trying to keep the balls on the parachute, the other half trying to bounce them off. They will work together to hide underneath the parachute and form a mushroom so that the Knights can't find them being silly. The Jesters will come up with lots of funny ideas to entertain and make people laugh.
Beach Volleyball -4th Kanata Beavers -Blow up beach volleyball and net. DIvide participants onto two sides of net and then keep the ball in the air without letting it touch the ground, sending the ball over the net. Height of net will be approximately 6 ft high
Parachute game - 3rd Kanata D - Kids and parents can use the parachute to do various games like cat and mouse. The parachute is lifted by everyone while a "cat" and "mouse" run underneath and the cat tries to catch the mouse like tag. We can also use balls to try and bounce them in the middle of the parachute while the kids raise and lower the edges of the parachute
Medieval Tail Tag - 3rd Kanata B - 4 groups with different coloured tails. Blue gets Red, Red gets Yellow, Yellow gets Green, Green gets Blue. when caught, Beaver is taken to the dungeon to have their tail changed to the colour that caught them.
Bombard - 1st Kanata Colonies A&B - Beavers will be on opposite ends of a playing field. They will throw tennis balls at a soccer ball and try to get it past the opposing teams end line,
Elves, Wizards, and Giants - 1st Glen Carin Colony D - The rules for this game are similar to the rules of Rock, Paper, and Scissors. Giants can conquer wizards. Wizards can conquer elves.Elves can conquer giants. This game helps develop agility, teamwork and listening skills.
2023 Activities - Pack

Rescue from shark moat - 114th Ottawa Pack - Cubs will create a rescue line made up from pieces of rope tied with reef knots and secured at one end with a bowline loop and secured to a post with a clove hitch. The line will be thrown to a trapped knight in a wagon and pulled across the moat bridge. It is a timed event.First group to rescue the knight will get 30s off their overall time. Each incorrect knot will get 5s added to their time.
Flint and Steel - 7th Kanata Pack -Cubs will learn to ignite cotton balls with "Flint and Steel" (Ferro Rod). More advanced cubs may light a small pan fire with flint and steel
Medieval Tag Game- 1st Aylmer Packs A and B -It's a Medieval twist on the classic Tag game, a game that was played even in Medieval times. There will be 3 dragons doing the tagging. 2 Kings/Queens that have the power to unfreeze tagged players, and 1 Wizard that can untag the King/Queens. The Wizard can be touched up to 3 times before having to freeze. If they finish the round quickly, it can be played again. We will have props to recognize the different roles.
Coat of Arms, and Spear Throw - 137th Ottawa -Groups will design and create a coat of arms for their group. The coat of arms can be used at each group's campsite during the weekend. Each lair can develop their own area of the coat of arms. Cubs with the throw spears and try to kill a dragon ( broom sticks with foam noodle spears, dipped in paint thown against a target painted with a dragon).

Moat crossing - 1st Deep River pack -Our plan is to make the front of a castle and have a kiddie pool with a little bit of water in it as a moat. The youth will have to build a bridge to cross the moat and get to the castle without falling in the moat
Ball on Spoon Race - 19th Nepean Cubs -Divide the group into two teams. Have two points, start point, pick up point and turn around point. Place a few empty egg cartons at the turn around point. Players have to run from the start point, pick up a ball from a bowl at the pickup point and run with the ball on a spoon to the egg cartons and fill them. They will then run back to the start line, where the next participant will continue the process. The first team to fill up the egg carton and come back to the starting point wins. We can do other variations too…

Pole Lashing Catapults- 3rd Kanata Timberwolf Pack -In lairs, Cubs will compete to lash staves together into a large frame, then attach elastic cords to the middle to form a giant catapult. The first lair to complete their catapult and strike the target wins.
Team tic tac toe - 4th Kanata Panther pack -Two teams will race back and forth placing or moving their playing pieces on the grid. The first team to get three in a row wins!
Mini catapults - 1st Glen cairn pack -We will lead the build of personal catapults to launch marshmallows or pompoms
Jousting - 63rd Ottawa Pack -2 or more teams. One at a time, 2 Cubs from opposing teams stand on foam squares positioned ~2m apart. Each Cub holds a 2m length of PVC tubing with a Nerf ball securely taped to the end. Over 30s, each Cub tries to push their opponent off of their foam square as many times as possible. The number of successes of each Cub on each team is added up to create a winning team.
Knights, horses, cavaliers- 1st West Carleton Pack -The youth split into pairs. The pairs of youth run about until someone calls out either knights horses, and Cavaliers. Then they must assume the assigned position that the leader calls out. The slowest pair is removed and another round starts until there is one pair left. They are the winners.

da Vinci Bridge - 1st Richmond Troop - Building a Bridge using Lumber
Mystery on the Kitchissippi shores -123rd Ottawa - Adventure to solve a mystery with some skills along the way
Snapper Fishing- 1st Cobden Troop - Scouts must work as a team to lash together a fishing pole and catch the snapper (mouse trap).
Merlin's Beard is on Fire - 3rd Kanata - Patrols will build a fire with the intention of burning a string tied across the firepit.Thanks
Nerf Archery Dunk Tank - 1st Kanata Beaverbrook Troop- Patrols will have 20 mins to assemble a small "dunk tank" that is triggered by nerf arrows and demonstrate it working. It will not be an person (Scout or Scouter) actually getting wet.
Breaching The Castle Walls - 1st Carp Jade Dragon Troop -Each troop will choose the appropriate materials to build a stationary sling shoot style catapult and knock down a castle wall.
Raising the Battlefield Banner - 1st Glen Cairn Troop - The patrol will decorate a banner and create a pole to fly it on.
A-Frame Transport Race - 19th Nepean Troop - Simple Chariot race, Scouts use two-spar shear lashing and Square Lashing, then make an A-Frame to serve as a simple carrying structure. They then then carry one of their scouts around a course.
Craft: Small Mosaic Shield - 137th Ottawa Troop - Use old CDs cut up into pieces as mosaics/tiles for a small shield.
A crane to build the castle walls - - 25th Nepean Troop - Construct a crane using rope and spars to do lift an object off the ground
Entertain the Royal Court - 1st West Carleton and 2nd Arnprior - Each group / patrol will represent a group of traveling jesters and will put together something to entertain the royal court (the scouters at the station). Some props will be provided.
Bridging the Moat - 7th Kanata Troop and 2nd Almonte Troop - Building a 2-line rope bridge among the trees at the north-west end of the beach area.
Ladder Toss - 114th Ottawa Scout Troop - Scouts will lash together 5 pipes into a rough ladder. Three bolas (2 tennis balls tied together) are thrown trying to wrap on steps of ladder. 1 point for lowest step, 2 points for middle, 3 for top, bonus 5 points for 1 on each step or all on same step.
Knock the Bottle off the Pole - 2nd Almonte Troop -: Plastic water bottle on 4 foot pole/platform, need to knock it off with a frizby. If defending team catches bottle before it hits the ground no point to opposing team.
2023 Activities - Company
Venturers must choose between paddling and hiking trip, as they will take place at the same time.
